Government Announces Pet Bond Policy For Renters
The government is introducing a pet bond. This will be a maximum of two weeks' rent that can be charged in addition to the existing bond.
It will make tenants liable for all pet damage to rental properties beyond fair wear and tear, be it accidental or deliberate.
The policy requires tenants to only have pet/s with the landlord's consent. The landlord can withhold consent on reasonable grounds.
Landlords: Would this incentivise you to allow pets in your rental property?
Tenants: Would this provide greater peace of mind as a renter who has pets?
